How to Plan a Self-Care-Focused Trip

Planning a self-care-focused trip is all about prioritizing your well-being and designing an itinerary that meets your needs. And now that you know the benefits of incorporating self-care into your travel routine, let’s explore some practical tips for how to do it.

Set Your Intention

Start by setting an intention for your trip. What do you want to gain from your travel experience? What are your self-care goals for the trip? Having a clear intention in mind can help you stay focused and ensure that your trip is aligned with your needs.

Choose Your Destination Wisely

When selecting a destination for your trip, consider what activities and experiences will support your self-care goals. It’s important to choose a location that offers and supports the experiences you’re seeking. Look for accommodations that will support your self-care needs, such as a spa, yoga studio, or access to healthy food options.

Use a Travel Agent If Needed*

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with the planning process, consider working with a travel agent. A professional can help you identify destinations that best meet your needs and recommend accommodations and experiences tailored to your interests. I used a travel agent for the first time for my most recent self-care getaway on a cruise ship, and I found the service to be incredibly helpful. Not only did my travel agent take care of all the logistics and planning, but she also provided me with valuable insights and recommendations that made my trip even more enjoyable and self-care focused.

Pack Mindfully

Pack items that will support your self-care routine, such as a journal for reflection, healthy snacks for eating on the go, a yoga mat for practicing, the proper footwear for walking, or a book to read for relaxation. Make sure to pack the things that will provide comfort and relaxation for you throughout your journey. Also don’t forget other essential items you might need for self-care, such as supplements or skincare products.

Plan an Itinerary With Your Self-Care Goals In Mind

Include activities that support your well-being, such as hiking, meditation, or exploring nature. Make sure to schedule in downtime for relaxation and rejuvenation as well.

When you put self-care at the forefront of your travel planning, you’re setting yourself up for a truly rejuvenating travel experience.

* I used Sharon Antoine of Antoine Travel as my travel agent. This recommendation is unsolicited and I’m not receiving any compensation for it, but if you’re looking for a reliable and knowledgeable travel agent for your next self-care getaway, consider reaching out to her to book. She was awesome!

How to Incorporate Self-Care Into Your Travel Routine

It can be all too easy to get caught up in the excitement of exploring new places and trying new things, but it’s super important to prioritize your self-care as well.  Thankfully, incorporating self-care into your travel routine doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming.

I recommend incorporating self-care into your travel routine from the moment you start planning your trip, all the way up until you come back.

One way to incorporate self-care into your travel routine is to take time for mindfulness. Practicing mindfulness can help you stay grounded and present during your travels. Consider taking time each day for meditation, deep breathing, or other mindfulness practices.

Another way to prioritize your self-care during your travels is to try a new activity or experience that supports your well-being. Travel offers a wealth of opportunities to try new wellness offerings, such as a spa treatment or yoga class, or to try new healthy cuisine.

Practicing gratitude can also be a helpful way to cultivate a positive mindset and promote well-being. Take time each day to reflect on what you’re thankful for during your travels.

Lastly, it’s important to set boundaries and prioritize your needs during your travels. If you need downtime or alone time, make sure to schedule it into your itinerary.

Self-Care Activities to Do While Traveling

Now when it comes to self-care while traveling, the possibilities are endless. Here are some ideas for activities that you can do to practice self-care while traveling:

  • Take a relaxing bath or shower
  • Read a book in a quiet spot
  • Go for a walk or hike in nature

How to Overcome Obstacles to Self-Care While Traveling

Despite our best intentions, and despite knowing all of the benefits, it can still sometimes be challenging to prioritize self-care while traveling. However, there are some strategies that you can use to make it easier.

One way to overcome obstacles is to plan ahead. For example, if you know that you want to attend a yoga class while traveling, try to book it before your trip so it’s already on your itinerary.

Another way to make self-care easier is to bring some of the comforts of home with you on your travels. If there are items or things that make you feel more relaxed, take them with you — whether it’s a cozy throw blanket, your favorite tea, or a special keepsake.

And if all else fails, remember that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as taking a few minutes of quiet time alone each day or going for an extra-long walk.

Final Thoughts on Traveling for Self-Care and Wellness

As you’ve no doubt learned by now, traveling and self-care go hand in hand. From providing a change of scenery to reducing stress and promoting relaxation, there are countless benefits to incorporating self-care into your travels.

So next time you plan a trip — be it for business or pleasure — make sure to include self-care activities in your travel routine. You’ll be thankful that you did!

Happy Travels! 💖
